The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) continues to proudly support Privacy Awareness Week (PAW), an annual initiative led by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). PAW promotes awareness of privacy rights and responsibilities and the importance of protecting personal information.
This year, PAW runs from 4–10 May, with the theme: ‘Trust is built here. In every privacy complaint. In every resolution.’ The theme focuses on how trust is built through the way privacy concerns and complaints are handled in practice, including clear communication, fair resolution processes and transparent decision making.
A key focus of this year’s theme is the role of effective complaint handling and dispute resolution in maintaining trust. How privacy concerns are managed, including the timeliness, fairness and transparency of responses, directly shapes confidence in how personal information is handled.
PAW provides a great opportunity to consider your current privacy practices and consider the potential for improvements.

Tax practitioners can access the TPB webinar resources hub to refresh their knowledge on privacy and protecting client information. This includes the webinar Privacy – it’s everyone’s business, which provides practical guidance on safeguarding personal information.
A range of events and resources are also available on the OAIC website. We encourage you to explore these resources and consider how you can continue to strengthen privacy practices in your work.
Privacy is an integral part of everyday professional practice. How privacy concerns are handled play a key role in maintaining trust and confidence across the tax profession.
