The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) Consultation and Standards Forum (Forum) is the primary stewardship group to ensure community confidence in the integrity of the tax profession and the tax system. The Forum facilitates strong engagement and collaboration between the TPB and key stakeholders, including partner government agencies, professional associations, educators and community representatives. The Forum provides an opportunity for key stakeholders to discuss strategic and systemic matters that will improve the administration and operation of regulatory framework impacting on the tax profession.
Before submitting your expression of interest please review the following information.
How to nominate to become a Forum member
We are calling for expressions of interest from registered tax and BAS agents who are not current members of a recognised professional association.
To submit an expression of interest, complete the Consultation and Standards Forum application form.
Expressions of interest close 10 December 2025.
Membership expectations
- Information supplied in your expression of interest will be used to assess your application to ensure the Forum has a diverse membership that represents the tax practitioner community’s perspectives and strengthens the integrity and inclusiveness of its consultative processes.
- Membership is at the discretion of the TPB Chair who will consider a range of factors, including expertise, professional background, and prior contribution to consultative work.
- Ongoing membership is also at the discretion of the TPB Chair, who may review participation and representation to ensure the Forum continues to reflect the diversity and integrity of the tax practitioner community.
- To support diverse representation across the tax practitioner community, you must not be a current member of any recognised professional associations. The Forum already includes members from professional associations, and this requirement helps ensure a broader range of independent perspectives.
- Should you be shortlisted, the TPB will ask you for further information, including completing a conflict of interest declaration where you will be asked to disclose any real, perceived or potential conflicts of interest or matters that could reasonably be seen to influence your involvement in the Forum. The TPB will also review our records to ensure you do not have any historical or current matters before the TPB that may impact on your ability to uphold the standards expected by the TPB.
- Given the nature of the work and the information that may be shared, you will also be subject to confidentiality obligations to ensure that sensitive and confidential information is managed appropriately and responsibly.
Membership commitment
Members are expected to commit between half a day to a full day for each face-to-face or virtual meeting, held up to 3 times per year, plus time for pre-reading. Face-to-face meetings are generally located in Sydney or Melbourne.
Payment
This is not a paid position. Members are expected to cover their own costs associated with participation. Where the cost of attending meetings would be prohibitive, the TPB may meet reasonable costs for travel expenses, if approved by the TPB Chair.
Selection criteria
When applying for the role, you must be:
- a registered tax agent or BAS agent.
- able to demonstrate an active practice.
- able to provide a statement of interest outlining your experience and motivation.
Expressions of interest will be assessed with a strong emphasis on diversity of perspectives and experiences across the group. In line with the TPB’s strategic priorities, we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
