Complaints

We encourage you to discuss your complaint directly with the tax practitioner if appropriate, before you lodge a complaint with us.

Fee related complaints

If your complaint relates to a fee dispute only, please contact Consumer Affairs or the Office of Fair Trading in your State or Territory. If your complaint relates to a fee dispute associated with inappropriate conduct, we may be able to assist. We do not have legislative authority to award compensation. Appropriate conduct for a registered tax practitioner is set out in the Code of Professional Conduct.

Information about your complaint

You may attach documents to support your complaint. We may also ask you to provide additional information to support your complaint.

Subject to your election or objection to remain anonymous below, we may provide a copy of your complaint to the tax practitioner you are complaining about and ask them to respond to your complaint.

Due to laws prohibiting the disclosure of official information, we may be unable to inform you of the progress or outcome of your complaint.

Who is this complaint about?

Please search the TPB Register of registered and deregistered tax practitioners, to identify the entity or person who you engaged for tax services or paid a fee to.

Please note that while you may wish to complain about an individual, the complaint will generally be recorded against the entity to which you owe or have paid a fee.

A copy of your submitted complaint will be sent to the email address you provide in this form, unless you choose to remain anonymous.

  •  the tax practitioner may be unable to respond to your complaint
  • we may be unable to progress your complaint further.
