Tax Practitioners Board welcomes ANAO report

The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) welcomes the Australian National Audit Office’s (ANAO) report on the Regulation of Tax Practitioners by the Tax Practitioners Board

The objective of the audit was to assess the effectiveness of the TPB’s implementation and administration of the regulatory arrangements for tax practitioners under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (TASA).

The ANAO’s report makes three recommendations for improving the operations of the TPB. The TPB agrees with the recommendations and has already started to take action to address these matters.

Ian Taylor, Chair of the TPB said ‘I am pleased the ANAO report acknowledges the work of the Board to establish the TPB over the last three years. The report states “..the Board has established an appropriate governance framework, introduced an effective national registration system for tax practitioners, and is developing a regulatory assurance function to ensure compliance with the provisions of the TASA.”’

‘I would like to thank the ANAO team for the cooperative and professional manner they have adopted and the TPB staff for their work in supporting this important report’ Mr Taylor said.
