Board approved units in the TASA, including the Code

To meet part of the qualification requirements for registration as a tax practitioner, you may need to have completed a Board approved course in the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (TASA), including the Code of Professional Conduct (Code). This course may be included as a topic or component in a course in:

  • Australian taxation law that is approved by the Board
  • basic GST/BAS taxation principles that is approved by the Board (GST/BAS course).

If your Board approved course does not include a component in the TASA, including the Code, you must have completed a separate unit covering this component.

This requirement applies if you are applying to:

  • register as a tax agent and need to have completed a Board approved course in Australian taxation law
  • register as a BAS agent (which requires you to have completed a GST/BAS course)
  • register or renew your registration as a tax (financial) adviser under the standard option and you are required to have completed a Board approved course in Australian taxation law.
