Annual Report 2017–18

Annual Report 2017-18

Message from the Chair

I am pleased to present the Tax Practitioners Board Annual Report 2017–18, as tabled in Parliament on 26 October 2018.

On 1 March 2018 we marked eight years of the TPB and the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (TASA).

Compared to the start of the regime on 1 March 2010, at 30 June 2018, the registered tax practitioner population had more than tripled to 77,749, with 42,561 tax agents, 15,638 BAS agents and 19,550 tax (financial) advisers now part of the TPB’s regulatory framework.

During 2017-18 the TPB continued to protect consumers by ensuring tax practitioners met the registration and renewal requirements. We also worked to emphasise that there are significant penalties for anyone providing tax agent services for a fee or reward while unregistered.

This report captures the work the TPB has done to meet the many competing challenges of the past year.
