Message from the Chair

On 20 January the Board held a preliminary Consultative Forum with representatives from 13 professional associations. The intention was to consider arrangements for an ongoing Consultative Forum. I believe we met this aim. The Board is now using this valuable input, together with information gained from individual stakeholder meetings. We will map out our formal consultative arrangements to ensure the smooth transition to the new Tax Agent Services regime.

A report from the Preliminary Consultative Forum is available.

Consultative arrangements we have established include the Board’s ongoing Consultative Forum. A series of smaller working groups will focus on specific topics. Topics on which there will need to be such working groups include entry requirements, professional standards and on implementation issues generally. Information is being prepared to address these issues to assist tax agents and BAS agents registering in this new scheme.

On behalf of the Board, I would also like to congratulate Geoffrey Robinson on his official appointment as Secretary of the Board for a three year period. Geoff and his Office will continue to work seamlessly with the Board to support tax agent and BAS agent professions transition into the new regime from 1 March 2010. They will also assist the Board with its overall responsibility for the new regime.

We place great importance on collaboration and meaningful discussion. On behalf of the Board, I encourage you to raise any points for discussion through your respective professional association or through our website. We value your contribution and to working with you to ensure the success of this new era.
